Calliope Songwriters' Circle
Host: George Kantor Description: Meetings are open to anyone who cares to play and/or listen. Under the protective power of a pair of wooden totems (an Indian and a bear), participants sit in a circle and perform their original songs, sparking other participants to provide feedback and sometimes leading to discussions about various aspects of songwriting. Meetings are followed by the Calliope Open Stage, hosted by John Hayes, usually with a circle member taking the role of featured performer. Two years ago, the circle produced its first annual compliation CD, featuring original music by members of the group. The second CD was released this past December. Stay tuned for Volume 3. The CDs are $10, and it will be available at all Threepenny Opry shows, the Calliope Concert Series, and CDBaby.com. Proceeds from CD sales from the Threepenny Opry will go to the performers who are playing that night. Proceeds from sales at the concert series and CDBaby.com will go to Calliope.
