2-Week Workshop 11/9 and 11/16: Seasonal Songs Celebrating the Wheel of the Year (Fall) and

4-Week Bluegrass Bass: Beyond the Basics, which starts on 10/5.

Since its founding in 1990, the Calliope School of Folk Music has provided thousands of students with the opportunity to explore the rich folk heritage of western Pennsylvania. The Calliope School is one of the few schools in the region to offer courses in folk instruments and singing, keeping alive the endangered art of making and sharing music.

Learn at your own pace in a friendly, non-competitive setting. Whether you’re starting up on a new instrument, looking to brush up on rusty skills, or seeking more advanced training, you’ll receive quality instruction from the best folk artists here in western Pennsylvania at a fraction of the cost of private lessons. Classes are held on the Winchester Thurston School campus in Shadyside and are designed to fit your busy schedule. Terms run for eight weeks each fall, winter, and spring, with occasional shorter workshops.

Refunds, Pro-rates, and Cancellation Policy: We will issue refunds only if Calliope cancels a class due to insufficient enrollment. If that happens, we will notify you in advance and issue a prompt refund or credit. We will not issue refunds to those who cancel their registration within 2 days of a class start time or after class begins. Classes may not be prorated. We will email course information before class begins.
