Pairdown
February 24, 2010
(Wednesday, 6-7:00pm)
Pairdown is the folk-blues & experimental group co-founded by singer-guitarists David Leicht & Raymond Morin. They've released two albums, the eponymous EP (2006) and Holykyle (2009), both featuring inter-dependent fingerstyle guitar work blended with inventive songwriting. Leicht and Morin perform live as a duo, drawing from a repertoire that includes both guitar duets and songs.
During the 1990’s David Leicht lived in Chicago, where he founded the post-punk revival band Sailing Knife. He then moved to New York City, where he started writing the early material for Pairdown. Raymond Morin lived in Lawrence, Kansas, where played in The Higher Burning Fire, also serving as backing band for Butterglory guitarist Matt Suggs’ album, Amigo Row. Morin moved to Boston and began performing a solo repertoire as The Instances. Leicht and Morin met Pittsburgh in 2005 and began collaborating almost immediately.
In 2006, Leicht & Morin co-organized (along with friend and fellow musician David Bernabo) the Woodlab performance series at ModernFormations Gallery in Pittsburgh. The series' sixteen installments featured an array local and national acoustic and experimental acts. Morin also owns and operates the label Sort Of Records, which has released over twenty albums of “challenging music in limited edition, hand-made packaging… everything from ragtime acoustic guitar music to abrasive out-jazz, jangly pop and post-punk.”

The Wreckids
April 14, 2010
(Wednesday 6-7:00pm)
The Wreckids (formerly Scotts Roger) is a husband and wife acoustic
duo. Their music can be described as
easy going folk, but is also lively and contemporary. Most songs
feature Scott playing the acoustic guitar and singing, while Sarah
sings and plays viola and a host of other instruments. You'll hear
comical, thoughtful lyrics paired with beautiful, lilting harmonies. A
strange combination to be sure, but the real art here is managing this
brittle juxtaposition.
Anyone who's attended a live show can tell you they're as much about
what happens between the songs as the tunes themselves. Scott and
Sarah enjoy telling corny jokes and playfully ribbing each other Sonny
and Cher style. Time will fly as you're having fun at The Wreckids
show.
