at the Carnegie Lecture Hall, in the Oakland neighborhood
of Pittsburgh. Many concerts do sell out, so

The Infamous Stringdusters
Well crafted songs, vivid arrangements, instrumental virtuosity, stunning improvisation, and unique individuality—their Fork in the Road was named Album of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. The Infamous Stringdusters are members of the new vanguard of acoustic music.

Mavis Staples: A Tribute
to
Mahalia Jackson
Mavis was the lead singer for The Staple Singers and is now in the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. A major voice for civil rights, her music gives America something to hold onto. This year, she received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Folk Alliance.

PBS called Tim O’Brien the best songwriter we have. Tim is a rare player who updates and clarifies the classics while writing new songs that sound like they’ve been around forever. His songs have been covered by The Dixie Chicks, Nickel Creek and Garth Brooks, to name a few. And he won a Grammy for Best Traditional Folk Album in 2006. With special guest, West Virginian singer-songwriter Todd Burge.

Innovative acoustic guitar virtuoso Leo Kottke is known for his technical idiosyncrasy, effortless virtuosity, and infectious rhythms. Kottke has collaborated on record with his mentor John Fahey, as well as with Chet Atkins, Lyle Lovett, Margo Timmins and Rickie Lee Jones.

full-length albums, seamlessly blending their original songwriting with a wide spectrum of
vernacular American music.
Joel Mabus is a picker and a poet who is known for both sensitive introspection and wicked satire. Joel’s shows feature American traditional folk music, storytelling and his own original tunes.

Sing Out calls Tommy Sands “the most powerful songwriter in Ireland, if not the world.”
Tommy Sands has been praised by everyone from folk legend Pete Seeger to Seamus Heaney, Nobel Poet Laureate. Sands appears with his son Fionan, daughter Moya, and Pittsburgh’s own
Bruce Foley on uilleann pipes.

Greg Brown
with special guest Bo Ramsey
Greg Brown has been nominated for two Grammy awards. His album Further In got a four-star review from Rolling Stone. Brown is a legendary songwriter who is regularly featured on A Prairie Home Companion and whose songs have been covered by Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, and his wife Iris Dement.

Vance Gilbert burst onto the scene in the early 1990's when the buzz started spreading about
an
ex-multicultural arts teacher and jazz singer who was knocking 'em dead at open mics.
Whether
with original songwriting or ageless interpretations of covers, his is a presentation of stunning
artistry and soul.
Ann Rabson is a little bit of Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith and WC Handy all wrapped up into one.
On rollicking keyboards or fingerpicking guitar, Ann is a major talent who has been inducted into
the Boogie Woogie Hall of Fame.

Location: The Carnegie Lecture Hall is in the large
Carnegie Institute building also home to the Carnegie Museums, Carnegie
Music Hall, and main Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
The entrance to the Lecture Hall is on Schenley Drive around the
corner from the Library , just before the bridge leading to Schenley
Park / Phipps Conservatory / Carnegie Mellon University.
Look for a flight of stone steps leading up to large wooden doors.
Parking: The entrance to the Carnegie Museum parking
lot is at the corner of Forbes Ave. and Craig St.
Near the parking garage elevators, there is a ramp / sidewalk that
leads around the building to the Lecture Hall.
Parking may also be available on nearby streets or in the park.
Handicapped access to the Lecture Hall is though
the loading dock in the Museum parking lot.
Please stop by the security office inside on the right to be directed
up to the Lecture Hall.
